DOGS IN THE BEGINNING
When we look at the Dog which divided our fireside nowadays, it is sometimes difficult to imagine how it has developed over millions of years. Early on mammals fed simply on vegetation but in time meat eaters came about they were capable to survive by eating the vegetarians. History gets us back to mouse-sized, flesh-eating mammals called Creodonts which exists at the same time as dinosaurs, some hundred-fifty million years before. Even though climatic changes brought about the death of the dinosaurs, the Creodonts stay alive and from these developed Miacis, between fifty four and thirty eight million years ago in the Eocene period. Thought to be tree and den dwellers, the Miacidae were small, with long backs, short legs and long tails. A number of individuality of Miacis has been passed down to the Dogs we recognize nowadays.

EARLY ANCESTORS
Cats went on to expand from Miacis but the next evolutionary link in the past of the Dog brought Hesperocyon, with an inner-ear anatomy distinguishing of the canine family. By now, time had moved on to twenty six million years ago and by nineteen million years before our time, the successful carnivore Cynodictis had come into life form, but estimation is now altering about whether or not the recent Dog residential from this or more in a straight line from Hesperocyon. Either way, maybe, Dogs early on ancestors developed in North America then extend from there into Eurasia.

By this time, an organization animal had developed; the 50 toe of which having been shortened into what later became the Dog's dew scratch; a kind of animals had now evolved that had Dog-like feet and had also bigger in size.

THE CANIDAE FAMILY
Around twelve million years ago, throughout the Miocene period, came Tomarctus, a wolf-like human being which hunted in packs and had the early stages of a modern Dogs tooth structure, so that by the end of the Pliocene period, around 2 million years ago, the institution stock for all modern carnivores had developed and with it the family of Canidae from which came jackals, foxes, hyenas, wolves and the Dog. Over current decades, various theories have been put onward regarding the precise evolution of the Dog and much valid debate has results Doubtless, with the passage of time, new findings will be made, most important to further theories being put forward. For now, science and the past have combined, allowing us to look back in time and to see the progress of that extraordinary animal we know and love as the Dog.
